Good for the Planet

We all care for our planet. Even the small choices we make in life and business, like our choice of the type of disposable cups we use, can have a huge collective impact on our plant’s health and hence the quality of not only our life but also that of the generations to come.

Sri Lakshmi Polypack has therefore committed itself to producing cups made of paper rather than less environmentally friendly materials such as plastic or foam. To ensure that our paper cups are biodegradable and 100% recyclable, we made key choices about the technology and raw material that go into our paper products:

  • All our printing is done using only water-based food-grade inks that are safe and environmentally considerate
  • We exclusively use ITC’s Indobev brand of cup stock paperboard for making our paper cups. Several aspects of this paperboard mark it out as eco-friendly and sustainable:

    • Made from virgin fibers sourced from sustainably managed renewable plantations that provide livelihood to local tribes and marginal farmers
    • Employs the more eco-friendly technique of Light Elemental Chlorine Free (Light ECF) using ozone gas for bleaching wood pulp. Unlike the conventional method using elemental chlorine gas that results in a large number of carcinogenic toxins as by-products, the Light ECF technique significantly reduces toxin loads in the effluent and thus helps preserve the environment
    • Social and farm forestry initiatives of ITC have helped replenish trees that have been cut while also contributing to a sustainable source of raw material for the industry. ITC has so far developed Eucalyptus, Casuarina and Subabul plantations that cover over 225,000 hectares

Good for the Society

  • Paper cups are a more eco-friendly alternative to disposable plastic and foam cups
  • Our paper cups are also safe and hygienic for human use with food products
  • Social and farm forestry initiatives of ITC provides farmers employment, technical guidance and an assured market by buying back plantation wood at prevailing market rates
